1991 Seiko 7002-700A Automatic 150m Diver “Pepsi”
1991 Seiko 7002-700A Automatic 150m Diver “Pepsi”
As production of the 6309 ended in 1988, Seiko introduced its next generation of 150m Sport Divers by way of the 7002. It is the direct predecessor to the SKX line of today, and owning one can feel like the perfect blend of old and new. This example from February of ‘91 is an absolute time traveler. It is in near NOS condition, and has likely never seen even occasional wear. The case is unpolished, and there are only a few hairline marks along the polished edges. It’s original finishes and bevels are factory sharp, and remnants of the original blue case back sticker are still present in the Tsunami logo on the case back. The bezel action is silky smooth, and the “Pepsi” insert is virtually flawless. The dial is a spotless matte black with rectangular markers at every hour except the 12. There, two opposing triangles meet at a point just above the silver SEIKO logo. The luminous material, in this case promethium, has developed the silver green patina that is distinct to these models. The hands are recognizable and a shared design with its predecessors. A large screw down crown sits at the 4 o’clock position between two protruding crown guards. The case back bears the signature “Tsunami” logo at center, and the lightning bolt marking it’s Daini heritage. It’s completely original down to the flat top hardlex crystal, and we’ve paired it with a genuine Seiko Z-22 flat vent black composite just like the original. Truly, a stunning example of Seiko’s fourth generation diver, this one is keeping time to within a few seconds a day post service, and the date can be quickset via the crown in the second position. With so many examples fitted with modified and aftermarket parts, opportunities to own an untouched example are becoming increasingly rare. Adding a near NOS safe queen to your collection? We’re betting this may be your only chance.
