1993 JDM Seiko 7002-7001 Automatic 150m Diver

1993 JDM Seiko 7002-7001 Automatic 150m Diver

$395.00

As production of the 6309 ended in 1988, Seiko introduced it’s next generation of 150m sport divers by way of the 7002. It is the direct predecessor to the more modern SKX line, and owning one can feel like the perfect blend of old and new. This example from June of ‘93 is the rarer JDM variant as noted by the jewel count printed below the water resistance on the dial, and shares many similarities with the final 6309 production models. The case is unpolished and shows only moderate wear throughout. It’s original finishes and bevels are still quite clean and crisp. The bezel rotates smoothly in either direction, and the count up insert shows only light wear to the paint. The dial is a textured matte black with rectangular markers at every hour except the 12. There, two opposing triangles meet at a point just above the silver printed SEIKO logo. The luminous material, in this case promethium, has developed a metallic silver patina that is distinct to these references, though some of the original material at the 12 marker has been shed. The hands are recognizable in design, sharing the same characteristics as its predecessors, though it appears that the hour and minute hand of this set were replaced at a previous service. They are genuine Seiko replacements, and appear to be correct to this reference. There is no degradation or discoloration in the luminous, and the original polished finish is free of oxidation or corrosion. The case back bears the signature “Tsunami” logo at center, and the lighting bolt marking its Daini heritage, and along with the crown, screws down to protect the movement.  It’s completely original aside from a replacement mineral crystal and correct replacement hands, and is an overall great example of Seiko’s fourth generation pro diver. The 7002 is a date only calibre that can be quick set via the crown in the second position, and post service, this one is keeping near perfect time. We’ve paired it with a “Tropic Sport” style strap in a supple black composite for a comfortable fit and finish, and are willing to bet it will make a regular appearance in any rotation.
