From December of ‘69, this mid-century casual from Seiko’s Daini division pairs minimalist styling with pounds of patina. The dial, originally a clean silver sunburst, has developed a warm ivory patina with the kind of bronze and copper undertones that can only be achieved over decades of ideal conditions. Pressed baguette markers note the hours, and the beveled surfaces are polished to a mirror finish. The hour and minute hands are giant dauphines with a sloping taper, and a mile long sweep counts the seconds. A print framed window displays date at three, and is quick set via the crown in the second position. The case architecture creates an “all dial” appearance with long tapered lugs and a recessed crown, and a slim profile makes for easy wear. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a new old stock acrylic crystal, and post service, is keeping time to within a few seconds per day with ample reserve. We’ve paired it with an olive khaki canvas over leather for a “weekend” fit and finish, but this reference is a blank canvas of versatility just begging you to load up on a wide array of various strap styles. If a classic casual with appealing patina is on your list, this one will not disappoint.
