The build quality and design layouts of Seiko’s early Pulsar offerings is undeniable. They present a real opportunity to acquire top quality Seiko engineering at Pulsar pricing… for now. We’d urge you to set aside any notion of its present day entry level offerings, and discover the sweet spot of the vintage market offered up by late 70’s, and early 80’s Pulsar. If you’re still not convinced, consider this 100m Sport Diver from January of 1982. If it looks vaguely familiar, that’s because the dial color and finish is the same application as another watch in the vintage Seiko stable (yeah…, that one). The dial is immaculate, and it’s set with polished applied markers with large luminous wells. The hour and minute hands have retained their bright polished finish, and the gold, sandblasted second hand is an early employment of the same style that would later be featured on the 7A28 chronograph models. The shared day/date window has an applied frame, and the “Pulsar” badge and logo are polished and applied as well. The deeply knurled yellow bezel is well proportioned and is a friction style that rotates smoothly in either direction. It’s polished finish is offset by a matte finished “root beer” insert that’s virtually flawless. The “count up” markings are matte gold, and a perfect partner to the dial. The case architecture is classic Seiko with an “all lug” appearance, and a screw down crown at the three. The case back is also screw down, and both secure tightly with ample threading. It’s all original, unpolished, and the movement has been cleaned, lubricated, and a fresh battery installed. It comes attached to the original two-tone three link bracelet that bears only minor signs of wear. With unmistakable Seiko DNA, this Pulsar is likely to trigger that familar itch that requires a Seiko scratch. And like the middle of your back… this one will be quickly out of reach…
