1973 Seiko 6139-6005 Automatic Chronograph “Pogue” (Full Kit)

1973 Seiko 6139-6005 Automatic Chronograph “Pogue” (Full Kit)
For vintage Seiko lovers, perhaps no series is as instantly recognizable as the 6139-600X models that have become synonymous with the introduction of this historic movement. From the “Pepsi” tachymetric bezel, to the “H-Link” bracelet, they serve as the embodiment of Seiko’s efforts to deliver, with style, their first automatic chronograph. Today, these models are often referred to as, and fall under the umbrella of the “Pogue” models due to their association to Col. William Pogue and his now historic yellow dialed variant. Available in three colorways (Yellow, Silver, and Blue), it goes without saying that no matter your preference, they are all memorable in their own right, and the right example would be a highlight in any collection. This 6005 from June of 1973 is your opportunity to own an experience. Almost any enthusiast can track down and own their piece of the Seiko “Pogue” story with just a few clicks, but only a fortunate few will ever own the history and provenance of that piece. That is what’s on offer here; the whole story in a deliverable package from an early October day 49 years ago. We’ve got the original receipt to prove it. Along with the receipt is the original paperwork including the instruction booklet, warranty material, water resistance card, hang tag, and price tag insert. All will be neatly stacked inside the navy blue and gold outer box. The cuff inside the felt lined inner “clam shell” is arguably the greatest way to display this stunner when it’s not on the wrist. The “T” dial is a virtually flawless golden sunburst with a crisp lacquer finish. The hour and minute batons are free of oxidation and corrosion and have retained their original polished finish. The original luminous material on both the markers and hands is a crisp and clean bright white with no visible patina. The chronograph hands are bright red with no chipping or paint loss, and the inner bezel is a rich, vivid yellow with no fading from UV exposure. The case is unpolished with crisp lines and sharp corners, and even with some light wear, the original finishes are still clearly intact throughout. The outer tachymetric bezel in metallic red and blue shows minimal wear and just a touch of fade. The crystal is an original “Hardlex” 330W18GN I polished by hand to preserve the beveled corners and restore to a clean finish. It comes attached to the original Seiko Non-Tapered “H” Link bracelet in stainless steel for a complete and seamless fit and finish. Post service, the 6139B is keeping near perfect time, and all functions are operating as they should. The chronograph pushers have a crisp and responsive feel, and a snappy reset to perfect zero. It’s a completely original full kit, and the only one like it we’ve ever had the opportunity to offer. It is sure to be a pinnacle addition to any roster..
