Seiko's earliest sport divers are the quintessential tool watch featuring understated and minimalist layouts with a militaristic edge, and bulletproof construction. To the hard core collector, they are sought after relics of Seiko history to be appreciated for their simplicity and reliability. Only in production for a few short years, complete examples in top condition are in short supply. From April of ’68, this is the only complete example we’ve ever offered, and it’s in incredible condtion. The case is a contoured tonneau that's unpolished with razor sharp corners, and its factory finishes are virtually flawless. It's fitted with a “coin edge,” friction style bezel that rotates smoothly in either direction. The “count up” insert in glossy metallic black is nearly perfect with no chipping or fading, and the lume pip is still intact. Beneath the bezel is a deep, high polished rehaut that gives way to a matte black dial set with polished applied indexes. Portions of the dial surface treatment have developed an oxidized patina that presents as a soft gray haze, mostly on the three o’clock side, but does little to challenge the visual appeal overall. The hour and minute hands are lean, beveled batons with clean luminous and a bright finish, and a striking red “lollipop” sweep nearly drags the minute track. A polished frame surrounds the shared day/date window at three, and the date can be quick set via the crown. The day can be semi-quick set. It’s completely original aside from a replacement mineral crystal and post service, is keeping near perfect time. It comes attached to the original slotted bar link bracelet for a seamless fit and finish. These bracelets are exceedingly rare, and this is in fact the only instance in our history that we’ve even seen one in the metal. Stripped down function in bold form, this one is sure to be a leader in any lineup.
