As important as any watch can be too the efficacy of a brand, the 6309-7040/9 is a perfect delivery of intention. It's as rugged and hard wearing as it is aesthetically satisfying. Even as the first "Turtles" released in 1976 turned 43 this year, one thing is certain... they never get old. This example from December of ‘83 is no exception. Unpolished, and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, it's an opportunity to add an icon to your roster. The luminous plots are bright white with no visible patina or degradation. The hands have retained their polished finish with no visible oxidation. The bezel rotates with a firm click in either direction, and the insert has moderate wear throughout. The crown and case back screw down tightly, and the 6309A they protect is a workhorse movement ready to provide many more years of service. The case back has been engraved with the original owner’s name and ID number, and rather than have it polished off, it’s been left as part of this Turtle’s history. Post service, it has a great reserve and is keeping near perfect time. We’ve paired it with a heavy slate two-piece NATO that’s both comfortable and durable. A true Seiko icon, and still their top selling diver to date, it’s a must have for any collector
