Like it's Lotus 72 namesake, the 6139-8030 is a finely tuned machine with aerodynamic lines, crisp corners, and a slick black and gold paint job. At 40mm, it's not overpowering, and still has plenty of presence. The matte black dial is deeply set beneath the gold minute track and black tachymetric chapter. The cushion shaped sub registers are a rich satin gold with a distinct "north to south" grain. From August of “76, this is an amazing example with tons of vintage racing inspired appeal. The dial is absolutely perfect with only the lightest hint of creamy patina in the hour markers. The hour and minute hands are flawless in black and white with no chipping or missing paint. The chronograph sweep is bright white and easy to spot against the dial. The 6138B is keeping near perfect time post service, and the chronograph functions are silky smooth. It’s completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and the case is unpolished with only moderate wear throughout. We’ve paired it with a olive drab RAF NATO that works nicely against the black and gold dial, and provides comfort and versatility. A true Seiko great, the JPS is on every collectors list, and it’s easy to see why. A sleek vintage chronograph with historic racing heritage, it’s bound to find a regular spot in any rotation.
