1975 JDM Seiko 6138-0030 5 Sports Speed Timer "Kakume"

1975 JDM Seiko 6138-0030 5 Sports Speed Timer "Kakume"

$0.00

In Japanese, "Kakume" translates roughly to "square eyes." And like two square, satin silver eyes, the sub registers of this massive chronograph stare back at you from their recessed position beneath the deep metallic blue of the dial. This example from July of ‘75 is unreal. The dial is absolutely perfect, and captivates from every angle. A rich cobalt blue framed in black, and set with polished applied markers striped in white. The square sub registers are a soft silver, satin finished in a north south grain. The hour and minute hands are unique to this JDM variant, and are tapered polished batons with white striping. The chronograph hands have retained their original bright orange hue and standout beautifully against the surrounding blue and silver. The matching bezel insert is incredibly well preserved showing only minimal wear and uniform color. It comes attached to the original “5 Sports” bracelet, though I’ve added a clasp extension as it was a tad short. The case is unpolished, and the original finishes and corners are still quite crisp. Aside from a replacement crystal, it is completely original, and post service it’s keeping near perfect time. The chronograph functions are smooth and responsive with a snappy reset. As the demand for vintage Seiko chronographs continues to grow, opportunities to acquire JDM models in this condition are few and far between to say the least. Don’t wait on this one.
