Seiko produced no shortage of sport divers in the late 60's and 70's, but none so memorable and as sought after as those that carry the "Rally" distinction. So named for their checkered bezels and dials, they are an instantly recognizable combination of color and cool. This example from August of 1970 is no exception. The dial is a perfect silver sunburst with stepped applied markers finished in black and silver striping. Framing it, a steeply angled chapter with hour and minute blocking, and luminous plots on the hours. The chapter has developed an even khaki patina that nicely contrasts the dial. The hour and minute hands are polished and beveled batons, though they have been re-lumed as some of the original material had begun crumbling. The sweep hand offers a bit of color in golden yellow, and is free of paint loss or chipping. The barrel shaped case is unpolished with sharp edges and the original finishes are still quite visible. The knurled bezel rotates smoothly in either direction with the perfect amount of resistance tension for keeping it in place once set. The “count up” insert is checked in silver and baby blue and shows a fair amount of fade and wear. The original acrylic pip is in place, and contains the original luminous material. Completely original aside from a replacement crystal, this is a great overall example of one of Seiko’s most sought after sport divers. We’ve paired it with a olive drab RAF NATO that works perfectly with the dial and bezel, and offers great comfort on the wrist. The hacking 6106 is keeping near perfect time post service, and is ready to provide many more years of reliable service.
