1969 Seiko 4006-7021 Automatic “Bell-Matic” 17j Day/Date

1969 Seiko 4006-7021 Automatic “Bell-Matic” 17j Day/Date

$395.00

The first Bell-Matic was released to the public in 1966, and was at that time the very first automatic wrist alarm with a central rotor. Seiko continued production of the line for another 12 years with a wide array of styles ranging from colorful casuals, to refined classics. This monochromatic stunner from October of ‘69 is a blend of both that offers great versatility and comfort on the wrist. The mixed finish case has traditional lines, lengthy tapered lugs, and a low profile bezel. The dial is a rich silver sunburst with a matte lacquer varnish, and is topped with applied, split baguette markers. There are two very small blemishes in the lacquer near center, but neither break the paint or pattern. The hour and minute hands are polished and beveled batons, and a long slim sweep tracks the seconds. The luminous material is the original throughout, and has developed a light cream patina. A framed day/date window resides at three, and the date can be quickset by pressing the alarm toggle. The day can be semi-quickset via the crown. Framing the dial is a raised satin silver chapter, and beyond it, a polished and fluted alarm bezel. A touch of color is provided by the cursor which consists of a white luminous triangle over a metallic red block. The alarm cursor has been carefully aligned for setting accuracy and the bell has a bright, crisp tone. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and post service, is keeping near perfect time. We’ve paired it with a soft, oiled Sienna suede for a comfortable and casual fit and finish. Up for any occasion, this head-turning “Bell” demands to be seen and heard.
