1991 Seiko 7002-7001 Automatic 150m Pro Diver “Pepsi”

$0.00

As production of the 6309 ended in 1988, Seiko introduced it’s next generation of 150m Sport Divers by way of the 7002. It is the direct predecessor to the more recent SKX line, and owning one can feel like the perfect blend of old and new. From May of ’91, this is a fantastic original example overall. The case is unpolished with only light signs of wear throughout, and its original finishes and bevels are still clearly visible. The bezel action is firm but smooth, and the “Pepsi” insert sports a mouthwatering fade with only light wear throughout. The dial is a textured matte black with rectangular markers at every hour except the 12. There, two opposing triangles meet at a point just above the silver SEIKO logo. The luminous material, has developed a soft, gray/green patina with even color. Some superficial blemishes are present on the finish of the dial, but are only visible from specific angles. The hands are a familiar carry over from the 6309 models, and exhibit some light oxidation in the finish. The luminous material is the original with some scattered darkening of the color. The large screw down crown sits at the 4 o’clock position between two protruding crown guards and along with the case back, screws down tightly with ample threading. It’s completely original aside from a replacement mineral crystal, and post service, it’s keeping near perfect time. We’ve paired it with a supple, gray “Tropic Sport” style strap for a versatile vintage finish that’s comfortable on the wrist. With so many examples fitted with modified and aftermarket parts, opportunities to own an original example are becoming increasingly rare. With the right amount of character, this classic tool diver is sure to earn a regular spot in any rotation.
