Our love for vintage Seiko affordables knows no bounds, and this bold DX variant from January of ‘74 is a case study in color and style. The case is a sharply beveled tonneau with crisp corners and pleasing angles. A thin bezel surrounds a flat mineral crystal, and beneath it sits a stunning peridot green, sunburst dial with a glossy lacquer finish. It’s topped with polished and detailed monument markers, and framed by a gold block minute chapter and second hashes. The hour and minute hands are detailed batons with machined finishes, and a long slender sweep counts the seconds. The DX badge above the six o’clock marker denotes its “deluxe” status, and that’s evidenced by the choice of movement. Seiko’s 6106C offers quickset of both the day and date, and a seconds hack. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and post service, it’s keeping near perfect time. We’ve paired it with a soft gray suede that takes a backseat to the dial, and creates a combo that’s unbeatable for entry level vintage Seiko. Whether your looking for your first or next watch, this DX is sure to be a conversation starter.
