Seiko's UFO Sport Divers from the late 60's and 70's offer big and bold diver styling with pounds of vintage appeal. The UFO moniker comes from the “saucer” shaped style of the case, and it has long been a favorite of vintage seiko collectors. This example from May of ‘71 is an absolute stunner. The dial is a golden yellow sunburst that’s shared with another familiar vintage Seiko, and it’s absolutely flawless. The applied markers are split baguettes with luminous centers flanked by Kelley green enamel striping on either side. The luminous on both the markers and the hands is the original, and has remained a crisp bright white. The rotating inner bezel is a "count up" style that rotates freely in either direction via the crown. It has faded from yellow to a light golden rod that is even throughout and offers a pleasing contrast between the dial and bezel. The lengthy polished batons are easily legible, and have retained their mirror finish. The tapered sweep is a honey gold middle ground between the dial and inner bezel, and is free of any chipping or paint loss. The factory circular brush finish on the case is still clearly visible and it’s topped with a polished edge bezel with a Kelley green inlay. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and post service is keeping near perfect time. We’ve paired it with a navy “Tropic” style strap for a coordinated period finish that’s comfortable on any wrist. Easily one of the cleanest examples of this robust, bright, and undeniably vintage sport diver we’ve ever seen, it’s sure to be a fast favorite in any lineup.
