At the crossroads of vintage and versatile sits Seiko's 6139-6017. Through classic architecture and layout, it is as timeless in design now, as it was making history as one of the worlds first automatic chronographs. This example from December of ‘70 checks all the boxes. The cobalt blue sunburst dial is near perfect, and is trimmed in a blocked silver minute track. It sports the "70m Resist" demarcation denoting its early production. The angular chapter is a glossy blue, and the silver tachymetric scale adds just the right amount of sport to an otherwise casual layout. The hands are polished and beveled batons that are easily legible, and the fiery orange chronograph hands add some well balanced contrast. The luminous material is original throughout, and has developed a subtle graying patina. The case is textbook Seiko with great contours, a wide flat bezel, and integrated lugs. It is unpolished, and the original finishes are still visible. Post service it’s keeping near perfect time and the chronograph functions are smooth and crisp. Attached is the original double hinged “Railroad” link bracelet, making this one completely original aside from a replacement crystal. A phenomenal example of an historic Seiko that’s up for every occasion and worthy of a regular spot in any rotation.
