It’s good to be the King… Seiko’s KS references of the 1960's and 70's are the embodiment of timeless classic meets technical prowess. Each iteration is an expression of understated sophistication, and this example from September of 1969 is no exception. The dial is a gift from the watch gods, having developed a near uniform salmon pink tone throughout. Originally a glossy silver sunburst, its exposure to the right conditions over just enough time, have created a truly unique and enviable patina. In perfect contrast, it’s topped with applied black baguettes in total balance due to the absence of a date aperture. The hands add even more character as each are a differing, though complementary style. The hours are counted on a striped, flat baton, the minutes, a lean polished taper, and the seconds, a needle thin sweep. The case is a monocoque style in which access to the movement is only allowed through the front. This design inspired a clever feature on Seiko's part where in a large screw head can be seen between the lower lugs. Removing this screw allows the passage of a thin screwdriver blade to meet the slotted head of a geared regulator post for fine adjustments in regulation. On the case back, the "KS" golden medallion is completely intact and shows almost no wear (we’ve applied a static cling cover for protection, and suggest leaving it in place, even while on the wrist). It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and the hacking 5621 Hi Beat (28,800) is keeping near perfect time post service. To highlight the dial, we've paired it with a golden brown suede with copper stitching, and we’re willing to bet it will leave your other watches begging for a bit of wrist time.
