Seiko’s third iteration of a “World Time” design came in the form of the 6400/09. It was available in a few differing color ways, but for us, the black and orange variant is certainly the list topper. The dial is a rich charcoal black with a cross-hatched linen texture, and a crisp lacquer finish. At its edge is a pumpkin orange 24 hour track that can be used in conjunction with the black and orange “cities of the world” inner bezel to determine the Tim anywhere in the world at a glance. The hands and applied markers are brightly polished aside from the bold red of the contoured GMT hand that serves to assist in two of this watch’s three functions: Tracking local time, that of a destination time zone, and determining the local time anywhere else in the world. The case offers great vintage appeal with a classic tonneau shape and large, 41mm diameter. The crown sits recessed at four, and can be turned in either direction to rotate the “cities” bezel. This example from March of ‘72 is in incredible condition. It is unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal. It comes attached to the original double hinged “bar” link bracelet, and post service is keeping near perfect time. This one checks all the boxes, and is sure to be a fast favorite in any collection.
