The Seikomatic-P was the Japanese domestic version of the export “Presmatic” line. As the branding indicates, pressing the hexagonal pusher within the crown automatically advanced the date. Both lines were short lived with a production range of about two years, and either are certainly a worthwhile addition to any collection. The 5106 is packed with 33 jewels, all of which are functional and provide near friction free performance across the entire movement. It can be manually or automatically wound, has hacking seconds, and an instant, rather than rolling, day and date change. If the specs haven’t already convinced you, the styling will. The dial is a stunning “east to west” silver linen beneath a glossy lacquer finish with heavily detailed monument markers. The baton hour and minute hands are finished to match, and a slender sweep counts the seconds. The case is a sleek tonneau with hooded lugs, smooth contours, and contrasting finishes. The screw down case back is clean and the original etched embossing is clearly intact. The original “chiclet” bracelet offers a seamless transition from the case, however, the right  strap could add another level of sophistication. It is unpolished and completely original, and post service is keeping near perfect time. It is as much presence as it is performance, and an enviable vestige of late 60’s mod design.
