A simple and elegant, mid-century hand winder should be a staple on any roster. This clean and compact classic from June of ‘66 is about as good as it gets. The straightforward case design with tapered lugs and a thin, sloped bezel creates an “all dial” display, and what a dial to showcase. A silvery white sunburst, its finished with a glossy lacquer top, polished applied baguettes, and a single Arabic “12” at top center. With no minute track, the dial has clean edges, and a nicely proportioned (semi-quickset) date window resides at three. Along with the Seiko logo, three lines of well balanced text sit just above the six. The hour and minute hands are long and tapered batons with a soft bevel, and a slender sweep counts off the seconds. At 33mm, it’s built for comfort, but with presence to spare. It’s  completely original aside from a replacement domed acrylic crystal. The case is unpolished with crisp corners and lines, and the embossed etching and “Sea Horse” logo on the screw down case back are still clearly visible. We’ve paired it with an oak nubuck leather that highlights the dial, and provides comfort and versatility on the wrist. Post service its keeping near perfect time with ample reserve. For the believer that big things come in small packages, this is all the proof you need.
