1965 Seiko 6220-7000 Manual Wind Time Only (Diashock)

1965 Seiko 6220-7000 Manual Wind Time Only (Diashock)

A simple and elegant, manually wound three-hander should be a staple on any roster. This clean and compact classic from January of ‘65 is about as good as it gets. The straightforward case design with beveled lugs and a thin, sloped bezel creates an “all dial” display, and what a dial to showcase. A silvery champagne sunburst, its finished with a glossy lacquer top, polished applied baguettes, and Arabic numeral quarter hours. The drilled minute track creates a soft contrast against the copper patina of the hour plots, and the Seiko badge and “diashock” print are in perfect balance. The hour and minute hands are long and tapered dauphines with mint green luminous windows, and a slender sweep counts off the seconds. At 33mm, it’s built for comfort, but with presence to spare. It’s completely original right down to the domed acrylic which has been polished by hand. The case is unpolished with crisp corners and lines, and the embossed etching on the screw down case back is still completely legible. We’ve paired it with an olive suede leather that highlights the dial, and provides comfort and versatility on the wrist. Post service its keeping near perfect time with ample reserve. For the believer that big things come in small packages, this is all the proof you need.
