1965 JDM Seiko 6206-8990 Seikomatic Weekdater (Kanji Day)

The Seikomatic "Weekdater" line up from the 1960's offers up some of the cleanest layouts and most appealing designs to come out of era. Mid-century modernity and minimalism that's just as relevant today as it was when they were introduced more than 50 years ago. This example from April of ‘65 is no exception... A scarcer JDM variant, it features the full Kanji days of the week in the large aperture above the six o'clock marker. Just four lines of text in well balanced and carefully chosen fonts embellish the lacquer finished, silvery sunburst dial. The applied baguette markers are polished and beveled, and the broad dauphine hands are crisp and perfectly proportioned. The case sports a thin polished bezel, but the lugs and profile are stocky with sharp corners and crisp angles. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and post service is keeping near perfect time. We’ve paired it with a smooth brown leather with white stitching to highlight the dial and offer comfort and versatility on the wrist.  Incredibly well preserved, this sleek dress/casual is a timeless classic that’s sure to earn a regular spot in any rotation.
