We’re always on the lookout for vintage Seiko casuals that work just as hard on the wrist as they do behind the dial. In addition, the uptick in requests for clean vintage gold just can’t be ignored. This 7005 from November of ‘71 checks both boxes, plus a few extras. Sharing a case with the 8030 MAC-V SOG issue, it features sloping contours and a wrist hugging profile. The architecture is the epitome of the Seiko “C,” creating the appearance of two opposing crescent shaped lugs held together by a thin beveled bezel. At more than 50 years old, the plating has held up incredibly well. There is virtually no visible wear through on the case surfaces or corners, and the polished surfaces offer a gleaming warmth. Beneath the domed acrylic is a rich charcoal sunburst dial with polished applied rectangular markers, each of which has a square luminous well. The cardinal markers are more pronounced and joined by a thin gold crosshair. The hour and minute hands are thick batons with a mirror finish, and a slender sweep reaches all the way to the subtle minute track. The 7005 is a date only calibre with a window at three o’clock, and post service this ones keeping near perfect time. It’s completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and comes attached to the original two-tone “railroad” bracelet for a seamless fit and finish. Pounds of appeal and reliability make this one an easy scratch to that vintage aureate itch.
