1980 Seiko 7009-8219 Automatic Day/Date “Arabic”

1980 Seiko 7009-8219 Automatic Day/Date “Arabic”

When it comes to dial layout, few can top the crisp contrast of a clean and understated Arabic format. Typically associated with a military purpose, they are highly legible minimalist timepieces that offer classic style and timeless design. This 7009 from Seiko’s Daini division is a perfect example. Produced in April of 1980, it features matte finished dial that at one time was white. Over the last 38 years, it has developed the type of heavy golden patina that makes a good vintage watch, a great vintage watch. The hour markers are polished Serif Arabics with glossy a glossy black inlay that makes them even more legible against the dial. The hands are thin polished batons with black striping to match, and a slender sweep to count the seconds. At the the three o’clock position is a framed day/date window, both of which can be quickset via the crown. The case architecture is classic Seiko with smooth lines, sloping angles, and a contoured curvature that provides great comfort on the wrist. In keeping with its casual demeanor, we’ve paired it with a dark gray Cordura that’s perfect for all occasions. At 37mm, it offers versatility and plenty of eye catching presence. For those looking to break into the vintage arena without breaking the bank, it doesn’t get much better
