1975 JDM Seiko 6138-0030 5 Sports Speed Timer "Kakume

In Japanese, "Kakume" translates roughly to "square eyes." And like two square, satin silver eyes, the sub registers of this massive chronograph stare back at you from just beneath the deep metallic blue of the dial. Built exclusively for the Japanese Domestic Market, this Speed Timer variant features the 21 jewel variant of the 6138B, tapered "dagger" style hands, and the days of the week can be toggled between Kanji and English. This example from November of '75 sports a nearly flawless dial. The chronograph hands have retained their original bright orange hue and standout beautifully against the surrounding blue of the dial and bezel. The insert shows some moderate wear near the six o'clock position, but is in overall great condition. It is completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and is keeping near perfect time. The chronograph pushers are crisp and responsive with a snappy reset. We've paired it with a slate gray two-piece NATO for a sporty and comfortable finish.
